WATER
Lexington provides a steady, clean, and abundant supply of water for its citizens. The main reservoir is Lake Thom-a-Lex which is just north of the city and has a full capacity of 1.6 billion gallons. We also have a backup water supply of 150 million gallons at City Lake. Our 7.2 million gallons per day treatment facility provides water for over 8700 homes and 184 miles of line. Not only is there plenty of it, but it tastes good too. We routinely receive awards for drinking water taste tests, recently receiving 1st place in 1995 and second place in 2002.
SEWER
Lexington currently operates a 5.5 million gallons per day waste water treatment facility. This facility is the "end of the line" for over 7700 customers and 196 miles of line. One of the features of the plant is its compost facility. Citizens find this product an effective and inexpensive way to landscape while helping the City eliminate one of the treatment facility's by-products.
NATURAL GAS
As a strong, reliable substitute for electricity, natural gas has proven to be one of our most "in demand" utilities. Clean, efficient, and affordable, it is often cited as the industry choice over propane and fuel oil. Lexington currently provides natural gas to roughly 7900 customers through 463 miles of pipe. Our reserved capacity is enough for 10,000 customers and we are currently involved in an expansion project aimed at utilizing that capacity. Our rates are available for review, at your convenience, by contacting our office (336-243-2489).
