Survey ResultsThe results are in and the City of Lexington is pleased with the responses from its survey designed to help reshape its economic development strategic plan. The City received 188 surveys. Crystal Morphis with Creative Economic Development Consulting is happy with the results stating, “It's a great response for a City of your size.”
The survey's intent was to capture input into a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) Analysis. Creative Economic Development Consulting is facilitating the update and the City is also receiving support from ElectriCities of N.C. The survey was made available on the City's website and was posted on social media. The story was also covered by several news outlets.

The City is still sifting through the responses, but some of the strengths have stood out. The City’s Communications Specialist spoke with Morphis to learn more about those strengths. Morphis states that, “Uptown is becoming a destination for tourists and visitors and an amenity for small businesses." She also pointed out the many location and transportation related assets, such as the City's location in proximity to urban markets and to Interstate 85. "The City’s momentum behind its redevelopment projects, such as the depot project, is also a strength," said Morphis. Morphis also explained that community input cited the amphitheater specifically as an asset.

Morphis had a lot of positive things to say about the City as a whole, “I think as a consultant who works with a lot of communities, I have been impressed with the City government’s attitude. They have a business attitude and they see their role very much as being a proactive leader related to business development." Morphis cited the rebranding of the City as an example.

The survey is one of four points of community input that is taking place. Small group interviews have been held with a wide range of citizens from different backgrounds. A steering committee was established and a community focus group session will be held early next year.

Creative Economic Development Consulting says it should have the report finished by March of 2018.
